Biography
Johanna F.H.Hoogenraad (1953 ) is a highly educated artist from Amsterdam.
In 1978 she graduated at the Gerrit Rietveld art academy in audio visual design.
Among her teachers were famous artists and well known (typo)graphic designers, a.o. Herman Gordijn, Piet Klaasse, Charles Jongejans, Tom de Heus, Gerard Unger and Piet Zimmerman.
Her former art teacher from High School, Arie Vermeer, an established artist himself at the time, advised her to go to the Art Academy. This advice motivated her extremely, especially because she loved drawing and would this way build on her parents artistic talents.
She firstly moved to the US in 1972 where she commenced her career in the arts and attended art classes, specific to portrait painting and model painting.
Back in Amsterdam, she managed to get accepted at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and finished the 5 year education, specialising in graphic design. A couple of years later, a new field of study evolved: Audio Visual Design. She graduated in this field of study, under the influence of the development of the new medium: video.
She focussed on sound and image and made several animated films for editions of the famous television program: "Twee voor twaalf".
Her thesis was a combination of photography, water color painting, spoken Haiku lyrics and music.
After having finished the art academy, she worked as a stop-motion camera woman for the Toonders Studios. Among others was Multi Film, making educational films with a combination of animation and live action film.
The largest project she participated in was an animated film "Als je begrijpt wat ik bedoel" from cartoonist Martin Toonder, with a.o.animator Harrie Geelen and produced by Rob Houwer. This full length cartoon has never been matched in The Netherlands.
